Since 2012, the Green Acreages resources, developed especially for acreage, hobby farm and recreational property owners, have been helping people learn more about and implement stewardship practices that conserve and protect the valuable natural assets, such as air, land, water, wildlife, associated with their properties.
The Workbook
This comprehensive Workbook takes stewardship to the next level. Each chapter begins with an overview of an issue and background information, includes relevant legislation, offers examples of beneficial management practices and provides sources of additional information. At the end of each module, handy worksheets help you document and evaluate how you manage your property. The Primer
This introductory booklet provides people with the basics of owning and managing a rural property on topics such as water and waste management, living with wildlife, weed and pest control and much more. Green Acreages Guide Primers are free to rural municipalities and organizations to support their conservation and stewardship outreach efforts. We just ask that you pay the cost of shipping. Green Acreages History
It’s 2012 and ownership of small acreages, hobby farms and recreational properties in Alberta is growing. Increasingly, people are searching for information on how best to manage these properties in a sustainable manner, but there is a lack of suitable resources and support to help them.
Seeing the need, Land Stewardship Centre develops resources especially for acreage owners that enable them to develop and implement stewardship practices that help conserve and protect the valuable natural assets associated with their properties.
The Green Acreages Primer and Workbook are developed following extensive consultations with and input from many partners including landowners, rural municipalities and funding organizations.
Over the next 13 years, with continued support from Alberta’s rural municipalities and funding from other partners, Land Stewardship Centre would grow and evolve Green Acreages into a full-fledged outreach program (resources, workshops and project funding) that fostered a strong stewardship ethic among rural landowners, resulting in healthier landscapes across the province.
